Chapter 12

Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud). And weigh with scales true and upright. And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief. (Surah 26, Verses 181-183)

Samia is in the second grade in the school where her father teaches. She works hard, prepares her homework regularly and only then goes out to play with her friends. One day she was playing hide and seek with her friends in the neighborhood. A quarrel broke out with one of the other girls who threatened to tell her father untrue stories about Samia. Samia ignored her and went home. The next day, the other girl met Samia's father, seized the opportunity and said sarcastically: "You have a really well-behaved daughter. If you only knew what she said to me yesterday while we were playing..." Sama's father was angry and shouted at his daughter in front of all the children: "From now till the end of the month, you're not to leave the house!" Samia tried to defend herself but her father refused to listen.

She went and sat sadly in her room. Then she picked up the Quran, leafed through it and found what she was looking for. She took a sheet of paper and a pen and wrote to her father: "Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud). And weigh with scales true and upright. And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief".
When her father read her note, he came in to talk to her and realized that he had made a mistake. The next day, Samia found a note on her desk, reading: "I apologizery, my dear daughter".

Explanation: it was wise of Samia to seek a way of explaining to her father through the Quran. It was this choice which enabled her to convey her message to him. He could not refuse to listen to the Quran. Samia was seting an example for many children who feel that their parents do not understand them and have treated them unfairly. Children should study the Quran and then they can quote it when they feel that nobody is listening to them or that they have been accused unfairly.
